The people wanted a king like those nations around them, denying the true King they had who had brought them out of bondage, sustained them 40 years in the wilderness, preserved their clothing, defeated enemies on their behalf, provided food they didn't work for.  Sounds familiar.  We find ourselves today dissatisfied with God and craving for gods that are unable to sustain us, heal us, deliver us, keep us, love us and save.

God allowed them to have a king that could not follow instructions.  His heart was filled with disobedience, pride and lack of accountability.  But God told Samuel weep no more because I have rejected Saul for I have provided a king for you.

That man was David.  God told Samuel don't look at the outward appearance for I see the heart.  David's father gathered all of his sons except David. David was not considered by his father to be considered in the evaluation and anointing for the next king.

When people count you out, God will count you in.  God saw his heart-humility, accountability, faithfulness.  Can God count on you.

Saul did not follow instructions and the prophet told him your disobedience is as witchcraft and your stubbornness as idolatry.

In this season, repentance from disobedience and stubbornness is in order.  God rejected Saul because Saul rejected God's word.  Do not be found rejected by God.
